Active Caller ID is a full-featured Caller ID detection software that will turn your PC into an advanced Caller ID device.

Pros: Active Caller ID is a full-featured Caller ID detection software. This is capable of logging every call and identify each of the calling numbers that are available on the contact book. It uses your MODEM and Caller ID service provided by your local phone company to identify the number that is calling you line. Along with the number identified you get a name if the number is recognized from the contact book. Time of call, if the call was answered or was discontinued after some number of rings are additional data that is logged per call. You can assign a unique ring to your contacts. These audio files can be in any of the standard formats MP3, OGG, MP4A, AAC, AC3, FLAC, AU, VOC etc. If you would like you could associate a photo with each of your contacts which then can be displayed when calls are logged. The photos can be on one of the standard formats BMP, JPG or GIF. The program lets you associate one of 4 themes to the look and feel of the interface. The application works in one of two modes. The TAPI is the direct one. If for some reason this does not work, you can choose Direct COM at initialization time. Simple interface and settings let you operate the application easily.

Cons: I am not very clear, in the almost universal combination of phones with caller id and connected answering machines, one would want to instead have a PC sitting between the phone line and your phone to log calls in so much detail.

Overall a good set of functionality and ease of use makes this a 3 star package.
