Gem is a toolkit (add-in) for OneNote 2010 that adds some 55 new features to it. Some of the functions that are commonly used include top of a new page, adjusting and arranging printouts, page counter, pages, text box, merge of pages, sorting of sections and pages, open common folders, notebook, section, outline cut and paste and many other such functions. List of inserted files, merge of pages, navigation pan for headings, open notebook by Office web app, open common folders are some more of the functionalities added by this add-in. Table Sort, Attach file and Media file rename, Open Notebooks, Merge Tables, Bullets and Numbering sort, Table Of Contents Page, Table Of Contents Headings, Sort Sections by Color, Danger Size Alarm, Selected by Author, Clean Authors and so on are more of these extended functionality.
The One Note feature set thus gets to be very rich as far as document, note making is concerned. This is a simple interface and is quite intuitive. Most users would be able to get productive very quickly. The controls are also well laid out. The icons used are quite intuitive so that figuring out which button to click for a specific action is not difficult at all. One might wonder if you need such sophistication for simply creating reminder notes! But then, you do need these features sometimes and it is good to have them available when needed.
